59 CANNONS STOUT

Our new STOUT is named for what one historian called “one of the most stupendous feats of logistics” of the Revolutionary War. Twenty-five-year-old HENRY KNOX joined the Patriots that were fighting to take back Boston following the battles of Concord and Lexington, and was put in charge of cannon fire at the Battle of Bunker Hill. He is credited with the idea of moving 60 tons of artillery that had been captured from the British in upstate New York to Boston, which entailed a daunting journey of over 300 miles. When George Washington approved the plan, Knox set about organizing oxen, horses, and soldiers to transport 59 cannons through a bitter northeast winter — beginning at Fort Ticonderoga, crossing the iced-over Hudson, traversing deep and heavy snow, and passing through what is now North Hillsdale, New York on the way to the Berkshires and finally, to Boston. When the cannons arrived in Boston, their presence proved so daunting that the British finally withdrew their fleet to Halifax.

Our 59 CANNONS STOUT pays honor to Henry Knox and this amazing feat. No pastry flavor here — this is a back-to-basics “stout that tastes like stout” with a smooth, rich, boldly balanced profile, worthy of a hero. Enjoy it on tap in our brewpub — or be a hero yourself and take it home in growlers to share this holiday weekend!
