Israel Singer (As Iz) is a singer/songwriter based in Castleton, NY. His musical journey can be traced to early childhood in Albany, NY, where his parents exposed him to classical music and Jewish and Israeli folk and pop. As a kid, he developed an interest in tape machines and recording. During his early adolescence, Izzy fell for 1950’s era doo-wop, as well as the harmonies of the Beach Boys. He soon became hooked on the Beatles, The Who, and other exponents of the British Invasion.
Israel began playing guitar on his own while studying design at Buffalo State College, and picked up the drums in earnest, frequently jamming with friends. Swept up in the home recording movement of the 1980’s, Izzy began composing and recording his own songs on a Tascam 4-track, playing all the instruments himself. At first, he hated the sound of his own voice on tape, but learned to get over it. In the late 1980’s, he released his first cassette under the moniker “As Iz” (which he uses to this day). Since the 1990’s, Izzy has recorded nine solo albums, the latest being the new EP, “Under The Radar,” released in December 2023.
