Joel Blumert is a product of the 60’s blues and folk revival. He started playing guitar in 1963 and met Son House in 1968, an experience that changed his musical direction profoundly. His primary guitar influences are Brownie McGhee, Blind Blake, Rev. Gary Davis, Doc Watson, John Herald, Danny Kalb, Larry Johnson, with lots of jazz and classical players as well. He has opened for Brownie and Sonny, Spider John Koerner, Rory Block, Jack Elliot, and many other folk and blues artists. Frequently referred to as a musician’s musician, admired by many jazz and classical musicians as well as folk and blues artists, Joel is described as having a confident, commanding stage presence, aided by dazzling guitar playing and vocal strength. He appears weekly on NWCATV (Canaan, CT) on his self-produced show, Guitar and Vocal.
