Lily of the Valley Bluegrass Band is rooted in the hills and hollows of Gardiner, NY, according to the group’s leader, Jack Vero (guitar and vocals). Born in Texas, Jack grew up in Nyack where he met future Berklee student Jordan Rinchiara and encouraged him to take up the mandolin. From that beginning, their sound developed—drawing inspiration from Doc Watson’s powerful picking style and the rich vocal harmonies of Special Consensus.
Chris Macchia holds down the rhythm on upright bass, rounding out the core trio, with occasional appearances by Ian Moore (fiddle and vocals), a North Carolina native who brings a wealth of traditional fiddle tunes to the group. Jack often jokes about Ian’s contributions: “I didn’t know there were lyrics to some of these tunes!”
Jack credits his studies with guitar great Jake Eddy (Becky Buller / Andy Statman / Melvin Goins) for helping him refine his technique and shape the band’s signature sound. His smooth yet gritty vocals lend a haunting quality to their songs, while his guitar work provides both drive and texture. Jordan’s knack for melody and harmony adds a warm and engaging layer to their music, making each performance a treat for the ears.
Together, they craft a sound that feels both nostalgic and fresh, influenced by legends like Tony Rice, J.D. Crowe, and Vassar Clements, with a dash of contemporary bluegrass flair. The group’s name, Lily of the Valley, symbolizes purity, simplicity, and beauty—qualities that shine through in their music.
